GIPA application
The Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 (NSW) (GIPA Act) was established to provide an open and transparent process for giving the public access to information from NSW public sector agencies and to encourage the proactive release of government information. The GIPA Act provides the public with certain rights to information which are designed to meet community expectations of more transparent government by:
- encouraging the proactive release of government information to the public
- giving the public an enforceable right to access government information
- restricting access to government information only when an overriding public interest against disclosure exists.
You can find out more about your right to information and ways you can access NSW Government information on the Information and Privacy Commission (IPC) website at www.ipc.nsw.gov.au.
